SAM was a German Shepherd Dog which served with the Royal British Army Dog Unit. While serving in Bosnia and Harzegovina as part of peace keeping force, SAM received the Dickin medel, the animal’s equivalent of the Victoria Cross for acts of bravery in apprehending armed men and holding back armed mob besieging a compound when Serbs were taking refuge.
