Smt. Piu Sarkhel is a performing artist in Hindustani Classical Vocal music from the Indore Gharana, established by the late Usd. Amirkhan Saheb of Indore, M.P.Born in 1965 Piu took her training in Khayal from her father Sri Kamal Bondopadhyay who was the disciple of the great maestro Ustd. Amirkhansaheb of Indore for 21 Years. The great maestro used to stay at her place in kolkata during the later part of his life. Piu had the rare privilege to listen to and to sing for this great maestro at her tender age.Piu Possesses a mellifluous voice that ranges in more than three octaves with ease. Her superb command over Sur and Taal are exceptional. The gradual progression of the Raga and the Drut fleets of Tans and Sargams by her are typically Amirkhani by nature with the application of Meru Khand.She is empancelled by the ICCR, New Delhi and has performed for the prestigious ASIAN MUSIC CIRCIUT (AMC), UK funded by the Art Council of England for the two conseqnetive years 2005, 2006 & 2009.She has also representated India at the Nehru Centre, London and Tagore Centre, Berlin, the Cultural Wings of the Indian High Comission, U.K. and the Indian Embassy, Germany respectively.
