What plough? began when ex-Zepheroth members Siddharth Merchant and Tanay Apte decided they wanted to start a whole new outfit that was different from music anyone had ever heard before. Tanay said "clean vocals? lol". Machi said "bass guitar playing lead parts? lol". Then they realised they needed to find a drummer who could only be understood by selective people when he spoke, and they picked up Armando Khan. Armando said "single bass pedal? lol". Then all three of them got together and spoke about finding the next member. Armando said, "we need two guitarists". Tanay said, " we need a fat guitarist ". Machi said, " we need a black guitarist ". And so as it turns out there was one such individual, and Akshay Gaikwad joined the band. "Djent riffs and no lead guitar? Lol" He said. The first time the band jammed, "music that will rip you to shreds from pure awesomeness? Lol" they all said.
