Recognizing the energy saving possible through widespread usage of LED lighting, National LED programme UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) was launched across the country in January 2015. Under this programme, EESL aims to replace 770 million energy inefficient bulbs in the residential sector over three-year period with LED bulbs.
The industry welcomes bulk procurement of LED bulbs (by EESL) which has played an important role in aggregation of the demand and tendering for large quantities-which in turn has motivated the domestic investors and have also helped bring down the prices. The industry is in a position to meet the demand through domestic manufactured products. The component industry has invested in catering to the requirements of passive and electromechanical components.
In pursuant to the policy for Preference to domestically manufactured electronic products (DMEP) in Government procurement, policy for LED products was notified on 14th May 2014.
In the above context Confederation of Indian industry (CII) is organizing an Interactive Session of LED Lighting Products and Component Manufacturers with MeitY & EESL.
The objective of the Session is to put across the manufacturing capabilities and production capacities for LED bulbs/lighting products and preparedness in meeting the demand through domestic production with value added products, integrating component/parts manufactured in the country and discuss support required in ramping up the capacities to address the export market also.
