How this self-healing rubber can contribute to events….

19-Aug-2017

A self-healing rubber developed by Harvard University, is a new type of rubber which is as tough as natural rubber but can also self-heal. Regular rubber tends to crack at certain stress point when force is applied.  But this special rubber when stretched develops so-called crazes throughout the material, a feature similar to cracks but connected by fibrous strands. These crazes redistribute the stress, so there is no breaking point that can cause catastrophic failure. When the stress is released, the material returns back to its original form and the crazes heal. The application is currently seen for preparing puncture proof tyres.  But they can also be used as additives for preparing event stage that can bear any weight and mass. This is just one application for event industry but it would be interesting how event people can articulate this new invention.
