Yet another incident that questions the entire event industry regarding the health and safety measures of event workers. During the oath ceremony of C.M in Gujarat, three laborers were preparing a temporary shed or “Shamiana” to serve food to the public when an incident happened leading to the death of one and to injure the other two badly. The brief of the incident was that the three workers were fixing the roof of the shed through the crane while they observed a sudden jerk. The jerk from the crane caused the imbalance in their posture which thrown them down to the floor. One laborer died on the spot while the other two are under treatment for severe injuries at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital.
This incident could have been averted if laborers were equipped with a proper safety harness. Whether the accident was due to the negligence or ignorance it’s a topic of debate and to discuss later. But at moment, the possible solution to this could be that on immediate basis event associations like IEIA, EEMA, IESA, Tent dealer associations, decorator associations, etc. come together and find some permanent solution to avoid such incident from happening and secure lives of these laborers. This is not just one incident but many such incidents happen around the year leaving families of deceased in a vulnerable situation. As there is no compensation guaranteed or insurance coverage for fewer fortune laborers. It is now on the shoulders of regulatory bodies to echo this issue among the fraternity and see what possible solution they can come out to give accidental as well as financial protection to them. Hope, after this incident regulatory bodies enforce some strict safety rules in the industry.
