Event Safety Measures All Event Planners Should Consider

The terrible incident of Las Vegas which took place last October, when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers leaving 58 people dead and 851 injured has sent the industry into outbreak! Post that incident; it has made safety and security an important issue for event organizers. Regardless of the scale of your event, planning a safe event needs to be your priority. We take a look at how you can do that, with:

• Coordination not only with local law enforcement but also with experts such as meteorologists to properly gauge safety measures.

• Try using more technologies like in-app crowd trackers, people counters, heat maps that show foot traffic, and more. 

• Qualified security personnel -

• The event should be staffed by qualified security personnel who also have experience providing security for events.  If using security scanning devices at your event, then the staff operating them must be highly-trained.

• 

• Reduce crowd density

  When it comes to the heavy-hitting issues like terrorism, it’s been found that even the fear of terrorist activity “can lead to crowd disasters”. Spreading out the audience and having additional event security to cover the larger area can reduce some of that risk.

• 

• Focus on lighting

  Planning a safe event requires lighting that:

  • Provides well-lit and signed exits
  • Has emergency lighting on standby
  • Provides proper visibility for set-up and dismantling of event equipment
