Abira, a highly talented and versatile singer of Hindustani classical, Indian light and folk music, was born and raised in Kolkata. She started her musical journey at a tender age of five, beginning her first lessons of Hindustani classical music from Pt. Ajoy Chakrabary and his wife Smt. Meera Chakraborty. Simultaneously, she also started learning light Bengali music including Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, and other modern songs under the able tutelage of Smt. Namita Narayan. Her classical music skills were further honed by later guidance of Pt. Sreekant Bakre, Shri Sandip Ghosh, and Smt. Aditi Bhattacharya. Her forte in Nazrul Geeti grew under the guidance of Shri. Biman Mukhopadhay. She also got trained in various key instruments by Shri Rajat Nandi.
