The Gupta brothers are organizing an extravagant wedding function at Auli purportedly at a cost of Rs 200 crore. The Auli wedding held at 11,000 height was no more than a big fat wedding accompanied with some B-town well-known celebrity and VIPs including chief ministers yoga guru Baba Ramdev, actress Katrina Kaif, singer Abhijeet savant and so on. Until the High Court has pulled up the State government for granting permission to controversial South African businessmen brothers Ajay and Atul Gupta to hold the weddings of their sons at ecologically sensitive skiing destination. Hearing on public interest litigation (PIL), the court asked how and who granted permission for the weddings to be held at this location. The court has also directed the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) to inspect the site and submit a status report on Tuesday.
The marriage program is to be held from June 18 to 22 for which a number of tents have been put up to accommodate guests apart from a helipad facilitated at the site. The court remarked that if the amount for cleaning of the venue is not deposited, approval to the program will have to be reconsidered. Asking the government who accorded permission for the event, the court also asked whether marriages had been held at Auli in the past and whether the helipad was already there.
Supervisor of the Nagar Palika Parishad of Joshimath, Anil, along with a team of 20 men, has been given the task to deal with the waste on hill-tops. One of the team members said "The wedding has created a waste problem in the hill station. The garbage has surpassed 40 quintals (4000 kilograms)".
