The wedding industry has grown over just a couple of years, with destination weddings being the tone of the day. With a promising landscape full of varieties, Bahrain tourism and exhibitions authority has given the celebration a new face. From its closeness to India, long period of good weather, very helpful and concerned tourism ministry, enthusiasm from all local vendors to collaborate with Indian teams to make each wedding or event a huge achievement. With all these things, Bahrain is an ideal destination for Indian weddings and events. Bahrain Tourism & Exhibition Authority (BTEA) is certain of setting new records in hosting the maximum number of Indian weddings and the revenue earnings from it to Bahrain’s economy this year.
Bahrain has hosted 17 big Indian weddings between 2017 and 2019 which received about 6,000 Indian guests, contributing a great amount to Bahrain’s economy. The Kingdom of Bahrain had acknowledged Wedding Tourism as a potential segment in 2016 and started a dedicated incentive program called Island Weddings Bahrain, promoting the Kingdom as a preferred Wedding Destination in the region.
Dr. Ali Follad, Tourism Advisor, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, said: “We are confident of setting records in Indian destination weddings by the fourth quarter of this year and the first three months of 2020."
High-quality hotels and resorts, professional DMCs, very good connectivity offered by national carrier Gulf Air, and complete hand-holding by BTEA all work to the advantage of Bahrain as a wedding destination. “What we offer to our wedding guests is a unique partnership. BTEA acts as eyes and ears of the wedding organizers from the time they come scouting for the destination. We offer complimentary visa, arrange special rates from the airlines, take them to the right hotel, arrange professional DMCs, etc. so that they feel confident and at the same time relaxed. No other destination offers such a seamless service. We are much focused and therefore have been very successful,” he added.
As far as wedding locations are concerned, Follad said that beach destinations are the most sought-after wedding location for Indians; however, Bahrain has diverse locations that they can offer to the satisfaction of wedding groups. “Bahrain is a cozy island destination with a lot of history, heritage, friendly people and rich hospitality,” he informed.
To promote Bahrain as a wedding destination, BTEA would explore going into smaller cities in the country to promote and showcase its destination wedding prowess, he said. “We already participate in two B2B and 2 B2C events in India to promote Wedding Tourism,” he informed.
Bahrain Tourism made it big when it hosted a big fat Indian wedding at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa Hotel, this year.
