Prasant has been generously endowed with a voice that spells maturity, melody and magic…” These were the very words used by the legendary tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain to describe Prasant A Samadhar.True to this description, Prasant has now embarked on an artistic mission to take the music industry by storm. An extremely versatile artist, Prasant has a strong foundation of Hindustani classical music. Brought up in the authentic Guru-shishya parampara, at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, Prasant has learnt early in his life that music is the highest form of education one can ever receive in life. The academy itself boasts of a strong alumni list that reads Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Ustad Mashqoor Ali Khan, among others. He now is on a mission to bring classical music at the same popular stage as light music. He strongly believes that since classical music is what Hindustan is known for, we must try to popularize it more by bringing it to the youth in a form they would enjoy it in! To concretize his dream, Prasant now performs with his band “NAMAH” at various concerts to promote Classical Music. True to its name, the band makes use of traditional musical instruments like Sitar, Tabla, Mridangam, drums etc and creates world music in a brilliant amalgamation of Classical bandish, tarana, Sufi and Folk music, that would take one on a cosmic journey through the universe!
