The Light-years Explode is a three-piece garage punk band from Mumbai, formed in 2009. The band comprises of Aaron Carvalho (drums), Shalom Benjamin (bass) and Saurabh Roy (guitars, vocals). The band released a self-titled EP in March 2011 and released their debut full length record, The Revenge of Kalicharan on the 15th of April 2013. The band’s music has been featured on the third and fourth instalments of the Stupid Ditties compilations. The group won Channel V's Launch pad competition in 2011. Since then they have travelled a long way performing shows all around the country and have been featured on the NH7 Weekender roster multiple times. The Light-years Explode started as band towards the end of 2009, while they were in college. Guitarist, lead vocalist and songwriter Saurabh Roy along with bassist Shalom Bejamin and drummer Aaron Carvalho form the angst-sounding band The Light Years Explode, whose sound are along the lines of punk. The idea for their brand name — 'The Light Years' came from the Hollywood animated movie Toy Story and the boys decided it would sound cool if they added 'Explode' to it. Like most college bands, they journey began by performing at various college festivals and later doing gigs at clubs and music festivals.
