Shibani Kundu is now-a-days a widely discussed name in the field of ‘Bengali Music’. She has equal class in ‘Rabindrasangeet’ and ‘Folk Song’.She entered into music in her infancy. Actually, the musical atmosphere of home – Grandmother Charubala Devi, Father – Manoranjan Chakraborty, Mother – Rani Chakraborty and Uncle – Shankarlal Chakraborty’s influene, all played their role to bring her into musical arena.She graduated from Calcutta University but did not go for higher studies. Creative, Cultural Education i.e. Musical World attracted her and she went for it with all her heart and soul. She stood 1st in ‘Geetprabha’ examination from ‘Bengal Music College’ in 1970 and her determination and quest for music increased. In her later life she got Pundit A.T.Kanan, Sri Ramanuj Dasgupta & Sri Manindra Nath Chakraborty as her mentors. She learnt ‘Rabinrasangeet’ from ‘Sri Sagar Sen & Sri Subhas Chowdhury’. Her thirst for music did not confine her only in ‘Rabindrasangeet’ and ‘Classical Modern’ songs. Some where she found a link between the tune and philosophy of  ‘Bengali Boul Songs’,’Bhatiali’, ‘Lalan Phakir’, Kangal Harinath’ which he  heard early in her life with the tune and philosophy of ‘Rabindrasangeet’. In search for this parity her attraction for ‘Folk Song’ increases and she begins its practice and culture. She went ahead thereafter.Shibani Kundu has resolved to revive the long lost aura of ‘Folk Songs’. Shibani is now a popular name in variety of ‘Folk Songs’ like ‘Jhumur’, Tusu’, 'Bhadu’, ‘Baul’, ‘Bhatiali’,. Her teachers in these fields are ‘Guru Sri Dinendra Chowdhury’ and ‘Sri Amar Pal’.Along with these Shibani Kundu got success in working in two ‘Santali’ Documentary films, ‘Hunt for Roots’ and ‘The Boon’ by playing the role of music director and co-music director respectively.This won't be out of place, that her husband Mr. Arup Kundu has played a major role as one & the only person who gave total support in making audio CD/Cassettes & full fledged singer of today's world.
