Vivek is hails from Chalisgaon, located in the Jalgaon district of Northern Maharashtra, a progressive state in India.
His early inclination to music was for all to see. His inspiration was his father late Shri. Ramchandra Sonar, an eminent vocalist, who was a follower of ‘Varkari Sampradaya’. It is a Vaishnava religious tradition within the ‘bhakti or devotional sect’ of Hindu religion, largely associated with Maharashtra, which has a seven hundred years old tradition of spiritual music.
Vivek started with a small flute at the tender age and has been his best companion since. His passion for the Flute could hardly be matched with anything else even in his childhood. He found his first Guru in Pt. Shri Purushottam Antapurkar. Under his able guidance Vivek’s passion got channelized for the better. As time went by, his quest for deeper knowledge about ‘Swar sadhana, Tantakari and Layakaari’ brought him to Padmavibhushan Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia, who not only took him under his wings but also offered insights about the deeper aspects of the Flute for the last 14 years.
