It The India Story (TIS) was launched in 2015 as a rigourous creative art and design exposition. This will be its fifth edition and it has already managed to expand to various verticals such as fashion, lifestyle, music, food and arts. “What began as a purpose grew into a festival and has now in the course of these five years come to acquire a life of its own,” says Madhu Neotia, initiator and managing trustee of Neotia Arts Trust and founder, TIS.
The 2019 edition goes by the theme of ‘Conjunction’ and is a travel to the past and about imagining future possibilities intuitively—old traditions and new reinterpretations; ideas, spaces and objects across the years. “Conjunction as a theme is relevant as the spheres of art and design overlap often in the modern creative space,” elaborates Swarup Dutta, creative director and scenographer at TIS.
The event will hold forum talks with Shefalee Vasudev, Sanjay Garg, Sangita Jinsal, Swapan Seth, Anahita Kayan and Arjun Bahl to Jamal Sheikh, Kalli Purie, Samit Garg, Shantanu Moitra, Sumit Dasgupta and Neha Kasliwal Arya. A news space for lifestyle will also be launched at Swabhumi along with 80 fashion labels and 21 lifestyle brands. There will also be DJ and live music performances from late afternoon at the food court offering variety of dishes from over 30 restaurants.
“We felt that TIS should have its own endeavour where art is concerned and promote young unknown talents from across India. We approached this through an open call to artists across the country,” explains Neotia.
The event will also showcase different art installations from artists like Bobo, Kassa by Arpan Patel, Narayan Sinha, Scarlet Splendour, Shibaji Pal and Susanta Paul. “I felt inspired by the puja pandals I saw this year around the city of Kolkata,” smiles Neotia. “We decided to commission artists from Bengal.” she added.
